BACARDI INVITATIONAL REGATTA

The Bacardi Invitational Regatta has become one of the signature events of Miami’s sailing calendar, bringing together sailors from around the United States and around the world for three days of highly competitive racing on Biscayne Bay.
Created as an extension of the long-standing tradition surrounding the Bacardi Cup, the Invitational opened the event to additional one-design classes and a wider community of sailors. Today, it combines serious racing on the water with the hospitality, camaraderie and international atmosphere that have become synonymous with BACARDÍ sailing events in Miami.
The 2027 edition will welcome the J/70, Melges 24 and VX One classes, bringing together professional sailors, top amateur teams and Corinthian competitors across three of the sport’s most competitive one-design fleets.
For the J/70 class, the 2027 Bacardi Invitational Regatta will also serve as the J/70 Midwinter Championship, adding another important title to an already competitive week of racing.
Racing takes place on Biscayne Bay, one of the most iconic sailing venues in the United States. Its warm weather, reliable breeze and unique Miami backdrop have made Coconut Grove a winter destination for sailors for generations.
But the Bacardi Invitational Regatta has always been about more than the racing.
The event is also known for bringing competitors together ashore. After racing, sailors from different fleets, countries and generations gather in Coconut Grove for the social events and BACARDÍ hospitality that have become an essential part of the regatta experience.
It is this combination of world-class competition, international participation and a relaxed Miami atmosphere that gives the Bacardi Invitational Regatta its character and continues to bring sailors back year after year.
In 2027, the Invitational will once again celebrate everything that makes sailing in Miami special: great racing, strong fleets, warm weather and a community that extends well beyond the racecourse.
THE 100TH BACARDI CUP

In 2027, the Bacardi Cup celebrates its 100th edition, marking an extraordinary milestone for one of sailing’s most enduring international regattas.
The story began in Havana, Cuba, in 1927, when the first Bacardi Cup was sailed in the Star Class. What started as a sailing competition in Havana would grow into a tradition spanning generations, countries and some of the most important chapters in the history of the sport.
From its earliest years, the Bacardi Cup attracted accomplished sailors and international competition. The Star Class, already known for demanding exceptional tactical skill, teamwork and technical precision, became inseparable from the identity of the event.
Following the political changes in Cuba, the story of the Bacardi Cup continued in the United States. Since 1962, Miami and Biscayne Bay have been its home, creating a connection between Havana and Miami that remains part of the event’s identity today.
Over the decades, the Cup has welcomed many of the world’s most accomplished sailors, including Olympic medalists, world champions and generations of Star sailors who have returned to Miami year after year to compete for one of the most recognizable trophies in the class.
Yet the history of the Bacardi Cup is not defined only by the names on the trophy.
It is also a story of families, friendships and traditions passed from one generation to the next. Fathers have returned with sons and daughters. Sailors who first came to Miami as young competitors have returned decades later. Teams from across Europe, North America, South America and beyond have made the journey to Biscayne Bay part of their sailing calendar.
That continuity is one of the things that makes the Bacardi Cup unique.
For nearly a century, the event has maintained a strong connection between BACARDÍ, the Star Class and the international sailing community. While the boats, technology and sport have evolved, many of the traditions surrounding the Cup have remained remarkably consistent: competitive racing, international friendship and the gathering of sailors ashore after a day on the water.
The setting is equally important to the story.
Biscayne Bay has hosted the Bacardi Cup for more than six decades, with Coconut Grove serving as the center of the event. The Bay’s conditions have challenged generations of sailors, while Miami has provided the distinctive cultural and social backdrop that has helped make the regatta known around the world.
The 100th Bacardi Cup will be more than another edition of the race.
It will be a celebration of the sailors who competed before, the families who helped carry the tradition forward, and the people and organizations that have protected and supported the event throughout its history.
It will also celebrate the remarkable relationship between the Bacardi Cup and the Star Class — a partnership that has endured through enormous changes in sailing and in the world around it.
In March 2027, Star sailors from around the world will once again gather on Biscayne Bay. Some will be competing in their first Bacardi Cup. Others will be returning to an event that has been part of their lives for decades.
Together, they will become part of the next chapter of a story that began in Havana in 1927 and continues in Miami 100 editions later.
